Standing on irregular circular base. Inset eyes on man and monkey.

Carved bamboo figure, depicting a robed and seated male deity holding a finger on his right hand to his ear, his left hand extended palm upward at his waist. His left foot rests on a broad-leaved, foliate element with a stem carved free from the figure. The figure's headress drapes down his back to the hem of his robe.

Perfume Holder (1999.13.0006A)

Stained bamboo perfume holder, tubular in shape, with removable base and lid. The holder is pierced, carved, and incised to depict an elaborate landscape. Moving upward and counter-clockwise, the scene depicts a rocky outcropping, a bearded warrior armed with a sword astride a pacing horse on a winding road. The road leads to a cluster of three buildings among pines and bamboo with a person standing in a door. In the distance is an arched bridge beneath incised lines suggesting clouds. The rim terminates in two bas-relief reels.

Turned wooden lid with cylindrical stopper exhibiting slight threads. The lid is moderately domed with an upturned rim, two incised concentric lathe-turned lines, and a central knob.

Carved wood figure of standing demon-like creature with smaller creature on his back. Both figures wear lower garments tied at the waist and pulled between the legs. Both have horns, claws, pointed ears and beards. They wear bracelets. The larger figure holds a bag in his right hand and supports the creature on his back with his left. He is wearing anklets and stands on a rock-like base.

A carved wooden figurine depicting a group of five monkeys. The mother is hunched over, holding a fruit in her left hand. In her other hand, she holds a hoe-like object below a second large fruit. Her left rear leg grips a third fruit below her. Five smaller monkeys climb over her and each other on her left-hand side. Signature of artist in Japanese characters appear on underside of the piece. Inset eyes in dark horn.

Carved figure of two sumo wrestlers on rectangular table-like base. One figure is lifting the other wrestler by his waistband and thigh. Raised wrestler wrapping his right arm behind the standing figure's neck and right leg twists around his left leg. Inlaid eyes. Figures carved separately from base.

Carved bamboo figures of fishermen and boat. Simple raft with standing bearded figure in robes holding large openwork basket and standing beside fish nets. Miniature figure kneels holding basket along side. Third standing figure wearing pants and long hair is guiding raft with a pole. At bow of boat is a smaller basket, two birds, probably Comorants, and two fish. Waves curl up around sides of boat. Raft of six arching bamboo beams lashed together.
