Tapa Cloth (2007.01.0001)

A large barkcloth. Is tan in color. One side features a painted design. The design is painted dark brown. It consists of squares with designs. Inside of each square is a semi-circle, inside of each semi-circle is a triangle. Inside of the triangles is a diamond, arrow shapes, and repeated arch shapes. The area between the triangle and the semi-circles has repeated organic designs, resembling a leaf cluster. The open space in each square is accented with a light pink/mauve paint. Barkcloth has some areas of distress, thinning, small holes, ect., especially around the edges. The entire design is repeated and flipped at parts, so that some of the semi-circles meet at their arch point, and some meet at their end points.

Bougainville Spear, Top Half (2007.02.0001A)

A long, thin, wood spear with thick handles. The spear is made of dark brown wood, and has several light brown handles and painted designs in white and brown. At the base of the spear, there is a long, silver colored screw protruding from the bottom. There is a small copper wire wrapped three times around the base. Further up the base, there is a light brown wrapped handle that is wider than the spear. Towards the top of the spear, there is a light brown wrap directly on the wood, which is below a protruding circular ring made of wood. Above the ring is a carved area with a geometric design, and the carvings are painted white. There is a light brown and black woven wrap above the carvings, and the a darker brown wrap with small spikes protruding above that. The tip of the spear is wrapped in a reddish-brown material with twenty white spikes of varying sizes adhered to the spear. The spikes resemble quills, and their size gradually becomes shorter near the tip. The shortest spikes are painted red. The tip of the spear has a thin wrap and then ends in a short, wood point. The wood has thin, striped lines of color that run lengthwise.

Bougainville Spear, Bottom Half (2007.02.0001B)

A long, thin, dark brown, wood spear. At one end of the spear, there is a drilled hole, and a thin, copper colored wire wrapped three times around the wood. The wood at the very end is stained a darker color than the rest of the spear. The wood has thin, striped lines of color that run lengthwise. The wood gets progressively narrower from the end with the drilled hole to thinned point at the opposite end. The wood has a slight curve.

Bow (2007.03.0001)

A long, dark brown, slightly curved bow with brown and beige string. The beige string is attached to the top and bottom of the bow, wrapped around the end of the bow and the thin wicker bow string. By the string on both ends are deep brown, thick pieces of hide. One side has tightly woven dark brown string. The other side has the same amount of string, only it is light tan colored. The bow string is loose, and can be removed easily.

Blow Gun/Spear (2007.03.0002)

A long, thick, black spear with a thin metal point attached to one end. The spear is made of wood, painted black, with a polished, light brown wood base. The entirety of the spear is hollow. The opposite end of the spear has a triangular, flat metal point attached by dark gray-brown rope. There is a small protrusion on the opposite side of the metal point, which is held on by a piece of thin black wire that has been wrapped around the point.

Spear (2007.03.0003A)

A deep red brown wood spear with a cylindrical shaft, tapered slightly at the bottom. The bottom is rounded. At the top of the shaft, there is a lighter red brown wicker weave which affixes the shaft to the spear point. This is not visible, as it is covered by a wooden sheath. The sheath has tan, thin, cylindrical wicker wraps. The sheath is tan in color.

Gourd with Clay Pellets (2007.03.0004A)

A gourd with shiny red-brown coloration, with some brown buildup. The gourd is oval shaped, and comes to a cylindrical spout. The spout has a lid that has interwoven wicker wraps on the bottom. It has two protrusions that are opposite each other with holes. There is tan woven rope that runs through the holes. There are stripes of faded white paint on the lid, on opposite sides of each other. There are some traces of white paint along the top of the gourd near the lid.

Arrow (2007.03.0005A)

A long, thin, wood arrow with a wooden (?) wide tip. The shaft of the arrow is made from brown, polished wood. There are evenly spaced dark brown circular knots throughout. The wood then connects with another piece of wood that is stained a dark brown and carved with “V” shapes, rectangles, and oval shapes. At the top of the carved area, there are three carved circles around the arrow. The shaft is then connected to a long, thin piece of carved wood that forms the tip by tightly wrapped material. The tip is a triangle shape, with concave edges. The wood is stained a dark brown. It is polished, and the tip has been rounded. The flatter side is a dark brown color, with a black line running down the center.

Clay Gourd Pellets (2007.03.0004B)

Ten, small, ashy gray, mostly spherical pellets. Some small black cracks are visible in the surface. The pellets are held in a plastic bag.

Arrow (2007.03.0005B)

A long, thin, wood arrow with a wooden tip. The shaft of the arrow is made from brown, polished wood. There are evenly spaced dark brown circular knots throughout. The shaft has a deep brown wooden point attached to it by a length of brown sinew (?) and interwoven golden-brown wicker material. The point has four carved barbs, with a thin, long point.

Arrow (2007.03.0005C)

A long, thin, wood arrow with a wooden tip. The shaft of the arrow is made from tan, polished wood. There are evenly spaced dark brown circular knots throughout. There is some brown inclusions at the top of the shaft. There is a brown, thin, cylindrical point which is attached to the shaft by a length of sinew and interwoven tan material. The point has two areas of carved details, one about two inches from the shaft and the other four inches from the tip. The carvings are diagonal lines, with one clear triangle visible.

A long, thin, wood arrow with a wooden tip. The shaft of the arrow is made from tan, polished wood. There are evenly spaced dark brown circular knots throughout. There is a brown, thin, cylindrical point which is attached to the shaft by a length of deep brown sinew and interwoven tan material. The point is a dark brown color, cylindrical and slightly warped at the tip. It has two areas of carved details, one about one inch from the shaft and the other five inches from the tip. The carvings are diagonal lines, with two diamond shapes on the shaft carving.

A long, thin, wood arrow with a wooden tip. The shaft of the arrow is made from tan, polished wood. There are evenly spaced dark brown circular knots throughout. There is a point that has alternating striations of deep brown and red brown, shaped like a thin, long, triangle. It is attached to the shaft by a length of tan sinew and tan interwoven material. It has two carved barbs, and three parallel carved lines at the base of the shaft that encircle the point.

A long, thin, wood arrow with a wooden tip. The shaft of the arrow is made from brown, polished wood. There are evenly spaced dark brown circular knots throughout. About two thirds up the length of the shaft, the color changes from brown to deep brown. Where it changes color, there is a length of dark brown sinew. Further up the arrow, there are brown and deep brown interwoven wicker wraps, which affix the curved point to the secondary shaft. The point is ivory and brown colored wood. At the base of the point, where it curves, there are three small, white beads, adhered to the point by brown buildup.

A long, thin, wood arrow with a wooden tip. The shaft of the arrow is made from brown, polished wood. There are evenly spaced dark brown circular knots throughout. The point is attached by lengths of tan sinew and brown, interwoven wicker wraps, affixing to a secondary shaft. The secondary shaft is a dark brown color, and has carved lines forming a geometric pattern. Further up the arrow, there is more wicker material, which affixes the curved point to the secondary shaft. The point is ivory colored wood, and the tip is brown.

Rat Trap (2007.03.0006A)

A long, light brown rat trap comprised of at least seven different pieces. The back of the trap is a long, thin piece of curved wood. This piece spans almost the entire length of the trap. At one end, there is a thin piece of material that is tied at the top and then tied to another piece of wood, approximately half the size of the long piece of wood. The area where it is tied is unstable and moves back and forth. This shorter piece has a small, carved, rectangular shaped opening at the bottom half. There are three smaller pieces of wood that attach here, forming a triangular shape, and are held together by a small, cylindrical piece of wood. Two of these pieces extend through the rectangular hole, and connect with the original long piece of wood.

Rat Trap Trigger (2007.03.0006B)

A small piece of wood with a hard piece of material attached. Both the wood and the piece of material are a dark tan color. The piece of material is tied to one end of the piece of wood, and then has several knots tied into it. It curves slightly. The piece of wood is flat and smooth, and has a thin piece of gray string attached at one end.

Stone Adze (2007.03.0007)

A large stone adze with a wood handle. The handle is made of dark brown wood and is fairly gnarled. There are some dark gray inclusions in the wood. At the head of the adze, the wood thickens and angles, and is parallel to the stone head. The stone of the adze is a dark gray stone, and has been smoothed and worked. It is attached to the wood by a tan colored wood wrap. The wrap is mostly on the front side of the adze, and is coming unwrapped at the back. There is a thin piece of light brown wood above the stone, and it forms a holder for the stone with the bottom piece of wood.

Wood Arm Guard (2007.03.0008B)

Thin, rectangular piece of wood with a slight bend to it. Both ends are thicker than the center and terminate in triangular points. On one surface, at the center and in between the raised edges of the points, the wood is hollowed out shallowly. The opposite, convex surface is smooth and stained in dark brown streaks at the ends, but not at the center. The central area on this surface is dark red. The rest of the wood is painted dark brown, and at the center on the concave surface, the paint is cracking. Some red wood shows through in this area.

Decorated Pick, Bone-Tipped (2007.03.0009)

A large pick with a bone tip and long wooden handle. The handle is a thick, smoothed, light brown wood with slight curving at the base. It is connected to another piece of wood, placed perpendicularly to the handle. They are connected by tightly wrapped wood fibers in an “X” pattern. The wood is carved with geometric patterns, and painted. The background of the bone is painted black, with the carvings painted red and beige. One end of the wood is not painted and is barely visible. There is a thin piece of smoothed and carved bone fitted into the opposite side. There is a tan and gray weave that is holding the bone in place. The bone has been carved into a point, and is hollow on one face, with some light gray colored porous areas.

Decorated Pick, Wood-Tipped (2007.03.0010)

A light brown colored wood pick. The handle of the pick is curved, and there are several protruding knots in the wood. The base of the handle and a few other areas are a dark gray color. The handle attaches to another piece of wood that runs perpendicular to the handle. This piece of wood has been sharpened on both ends to points, which have been worn down. The two pieces of wood are held together by beige and light brown wooden wraps that cover almost the entirety of the sharpen piece of wood. There are some areas where the wrap is coming undone, such as at the connection point between the handle and the pick.

Spear Sheath (2007.03.0003B)

Wooden, triangular spear cover. The cover is dark blonde wood with a squared tip at the smallest end and an opening at the opposite end, into which the blade of the spear fits. The wood of the cover is thicker at the two ends. Wrapped many times around the center, in between the thickened ends, is a thin band of wood. This band holds the cover together, which is made from two separate triangular pieces of wood. The wood is smooth along the edges where it fits together.

Arm Guard Cover (2007.03.0008A)

A brown pouch is wrapped around a long, thin, deep green piece of wood, which runs nearly the length of the pouch. The brown pouch is a light brown color with frayed ends and is folded multiple times. The pouch has a diagonal pattern of fibers running across its surfaces, and this creates a streaked yellow and brown pattern. The edges are uneven and parts of the pouch are stained a darker brown color.

Wood Arm Guard Accessory (2007.03.0008C)

Small wooden accessory stained dark brown. The object is shaped like a square with a thinner, perpendicular arm extending from it. Some patches of red show through from under the dark stain. One surface is smooth while the other has a dark glob on the square portion.

Thin, elongated, rectangular sliver of wood. The wood is stained dark brown but there are some lighter brown and reddish areas visible. One end is squared and the opposite is pointed.
