Thick pewter medal picturing a male profile, General Gordon. "THE LATEST CHRISTIAN MARTYR GENERAL C.G. GORDON. C.B.,R.E." borders the front side of the medal. A hole has been drilled through the medal and goes through the first "O" of Gordon at the top center of the medal. The reverse reads "SENT BY THE GLADSTONE GOVERNMENT TO THE SOUDAN WITH ONE COMPANION, JAN. 1884 IN MARCH HE ASKED FOR 200 BRITISH TROOPS BUT WAS DELIBERATELY ABANDONED TO HIS FATE UNTIL TOO LATE" in the middle of wreath.

A large rectangular shawl. On the front of the shawl, there is an intricately patterned piece of material that, presumably, was woven together. The predominate color is a dull red. However, there are also hues of dull green, white, and brown. The back side is lined with a solid off-white piece of material. Along the two shorter sides of the shawl there are red, green, brown, and white tassles.

The decoration within the registers includes starbursts, checkered patterns, and other geometric shapes. The colors include pink, blue, yellow, and green. The sleeves have rings of green, pink, and yellow. On the body, the edges are folded under and stitched into a short hem.
