Perfume Holder (1999.13.0006A)
16.7 x 4.2 x 4.1 cm (46 g)
Stained bamboo perfume holder, tubular in shape, with removable base and lid. The holder is pierced, carved, and incised to depict an elaborate landscape. Moving upward and counter-clockwise, the scene depicts a rocky outcropping, a bearded warrior armed with a sword astride a pacing horse on a winding road. The road leads to a cluster of three buildings among pines and bamboo with a person standing in a door. In the distance is an arched bridge beneath incised lines suggesting clouds. The rim terminates in two bas-relief reels.
