Artifact Identification Ceremonial Drum (1990.10.0116A)

Visual Description Two-headed drum composed of a wooden hourglass-shaped resonator, which is slightly cracked and filled with wax. The tops of each end are stretched with hide and affixed by ties around a thick coil of leather around the circumference. The coil is stuffed with textile and stitched with cotton string. Thin strands of leather are stretched taught from one end to the other. A thicker leather thong is tied at the top and bottom for suspension from the shoulder when played. Seeds in one of the resonator ends make a rattling sound when moved.
