Scholarly Notes 3/13/2008: "Gift of Richard and Barbara Faletti. " - Unknown Name, Unknown Date. Previously identified as a Ibeji Female Figure, Yoruba Culture, Nigeria in the database; identification changed to reflect information found on item's display tag. - M. Rarey, 03/11/03 Kuba, female figure with geometric scarification patterns, Zaire. - E. Robertson, 12/14/83 Female. Geometric scarification on stomach, back, neck, and head repeated in figure's skirt. Protruding stomach. Long cylindrical neck. Elaborate coiffure. Note the similarities in design to those of Kuba embroidered cloth, 1983.05.0029A,B. - V. Busenbark, ca. 1991 Display with Kuba fabric to show stylistic similarities and illustrate development of symbolism in African societies. Further research needed to determine object's function. - D. Schrishuhn, 5/7/99 Ibeji, not Kuba; not Colonial period; Nigeria, not Democratic Republic of the Congo; Yoruba, not Kuba. Definitely an ibeji--Yoruba, Nigeria. Suggests storage, not display.- R. Faletti, 2000 Many of these 1983.05 pieces list Eric Robertson. I don't know the source for this attribution, but Eric had nothing to do with those pieces. - R. Faletti, 2000
