Scholarly Notes 11/18/2008: "Billon is an alloy of copper and precious metals used to make coins. Dirhem is a unit of currency also used in the Ottoman Empire. If this coin listed as Mongolian refers to the Mongol Empire, it could be dated from 1206-1368. More specific dating of the coin would be helpful in identifying the geographic areas where the coin was made given the lands held by the Mongols at that time." - Jennifer White, Registrar, 11/18/2008 coins-minors: Mongolian Billon Dirhem
