How would you like to explore the cultures of the world from “your own backyard”? The Spurlock Museum program Around the World Wednesdays provides an opportunity for families with children of all ages to learn and create together. Held in the Rowe Learning Center, this drop-in program is offered each Wednesday in February and the first three Wednesdays in March 2005 from 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Hands-on paper crafts from different cultural traditions will be featured in conjunction with the Focus Gallery exhibit Following the Paper Trail from China to the World.

Around the World Wednesdays started in May 2004 and continued in the fall of 2004. Activities in the fall focused on the Day of the Dead in Southern Mexico, the theme of the Focus Gallery exhibit at that time. Hands-on projects included tissue paper flowers, skeleton collages, skeleton puppets, and decorated frames designed to present the image of a loved on the ofrenda, or altar.
In addition to crafts and games in the Learning Center, the Museum offers
activities for families to use as they explore the five Feature
galleries as well as the Focus Gallery. Come find out what “Spurlock
Sherlocks” are
and try your hand at the Museum’s themed activity sheets.
