A Famous Visitor

November 20, 2004

The Museum was very pleased to have Ian Jenkins, Senior Curator of Greek and Roman Antiquities at the British Museum, as a visitor and lecturer this fall.  Dr. Jenkins came to us as the 2005 speaker for the Dr. Allan C. Campbell Family Distinguished Speaker Series.  His lecture for the series was "Return to Cnidus: Digging in Southwest Turkey," a slide show that detailed the important excavations being done to uncover this ancient city.  In addition to his lecture, Dr. Jenkins also spoke to a seminar class in the UI Classics Department on the daily life of Athenian women.  Members of the Museum's education section and volunteer docent staff attended the lecture and took copious notes that will soon be incorporated into Museum tours and programs.

The Museum thanks Dr. Allan Campbell for providing the support for this lecture series and for bringing Dr. Jenkins to the Spurlock Museum.  We look forward to next year's lecture and future visits from our new Museum friend.
