Those
of us from the midwest often think that Illinois is nothing
but cornfields and Chicago. A day's drive on the roads
of Illinois, though, reveals an amazing variety of plants
and animals to
discover. The
Spurlock Museum's Focus Gallery exhibit Illinois: An Epic
Landscape,
created by the Illinois Natural History Survey, honors the biological
diversity of the state, with a highlight on the unique environment
of the Cache River basin. This exhibit opens on July 10th,
2004.
In collaboration with
the Survey, two special days of celebration have
been scheduled for the exhibit. On July
10th and August 11th, visitors will be able to visit the Focus
Gallery, join in on
games and crafts
in the
Rowe Learning Center, and watch nature films and hear nature stories
in the Knight Auditorium. Just outside the Museum, visitors will
also be able to explore the Survey’s Mobile Science Center, a
40-foot Navistar vehicle equipped to travel Illinois with changeable
exhibits. The
interactive, hands-on exhibit on display this summer will be Arthropods
Across Illinois. |
