The
excavations of shipwrecks off the coast of Turkey at Cape Gelidonya
and Ulu Burun, by Dr. George Bass uncovered many artifacts that
changed the history of trade during the Bronze Age.
During
the exhibit, Dr. Bass visited the museum and gave a lecture in
the
Knight Auditorium explaining the process of uncovering the ancient
artifacts from the sea. Also, he described how technological advancements
are transforming the world of underwater archeology, making it
easier to find buried treasure on the ocean floor. While on campus,
Dr. Bass also spoke to a class of University students taught by
Museum Curator, Professor Jim Dengate. |
Don't
miss Bronze Age Trade in the Ancient Mediterranean!
It will be on exhibit until September 10th, 2003.
The Spurlock Museum
is also offering a special interactive education event, Archeology
Activity Day on July 26, 2003.
