One of the Spurlock Museum's most popular middle school outreach programs is the ancient Egypt research project. A part of the Museum Problems in Today's World series, this program allows students to take on the role of Museum Curator in a real-life situation: a visitor has come into the museum and told the staff that information on one of the Museum's labels is wrong.
Working in groups, the students use resources provided by the Museum, their teachers, the school library, and the Internet to decide if the visitor was right or wrong.
An emphasis is made in the classroom on the use of reliable resources. At the end of the project, the students present their findings to a panel of Spurlock Museum staff members.
