Preparing for a Museum Career

Interested in finding out what museum work is like? Volunteer and student staff positions can introduce you to the range of skills, knowledge and experience needed to pursue a museum position. Many of the museum's current senior staff started out as volunteers or student staff members.

Learning New Skills

For student and volunteer staff members, museum duties often involve training in a wide variety of new skill areas, including computer applications (graphics, word processing, database), public speaking, research, program development, artifact handling, publicity, and woodworking. New senior staff members often improve and expand their skills as they apply their knowledge and experience to new situations.
