In June of 2003, the Spurlock Museum gratefully accepted a new donation of Tajik clothing, enhancing the Museum's collection of ethnic clothing from around the world. Medical students of Dushanbe, Tajikistan, presented the traditional costume to Mr. Ross in 1986.
The Tajik people traditionally spoke various forms of Persian and occupied Iran, Afghanistan, and the region formerly known as Turkestan.
The Republic of Tajikistan in Southwest Central Asia shares borders with China on its east and Afghanistan to the south. Formerly an autonomous region of the Soviet Union, it gained independence in 1991.
