Pakistani and Afghani Artifacts - New Acquisition
Pakistani Chair
This chair (2006.13.0029) was found in the Swat Valley, Mingora, Pakistan.  People in this region generally sit on pillows on the floor, but someone with an exalted status would sit a little higher.

Donna and Donald Kuhlman recently donated a variety of items obtained while living in Pakistan.  After retirement from the University of Illinois Extension Offices, Donald Kuhlman worked from 1992 to 1993 in Peshawar, Pakistan, as a continuing education specialist for the Northwest Frontier Provincial Agricultural University. While living and traveling in Pakistan, Donna and Donald acquired many items relating to the daily life and culture of the local Pakistanis as well as the local refugee Afghan community.

Stopper for Decorative Container
This decorative container (2006.13.0016) held charcoal and water, a mixture used to darken eyebrows and eyelashes as well as to paint designs on wrists for weddings or festivals.
Brass Milk Container Lid
The screw-on lid of this brass milk container (2006.13.0003) was possibly made from the back end of a brass shell casing.
