The front and back of a 1 cent coin from Indochina. 2004.06.0008
Collected by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Landis on a tour around the world in 1931, these coins were donated by their daughters Martha Landis and Julia Landis Casa. Representing their parents’ travels through Asia are 5 coins from Indochina, 6 coins from China, 5 coins from Hong Kong and 8 coins from the Straits Settlement. The coins are dated between the late 1800s to 1927.

 
 

1. A one cent coin from the Straits Settlement (1826-1946), a group of British colonies in Southeast Asia. The coin is from 1897 and shows Queen Victoria on one side with the words "Straits Settlement" and "1 Cent 1897" on the other. 2005.03.0008

2. A ten cent coin from the Straits Settlement from 1917. George V. King, Emperor of India, is on one side with the number "10", and "Straits Settlement" and "10 Cents 1917" on the other. 2005.03.0013

3. A Chinese coin with Manchu characters on both sides. The date of the coin is unknown. 2004.06.0005

4. A coin from Hong Kong dated from 1900, with a ten cent denomination. It displays Queen Victoria on one side, and Chinese characters on the other. 2005.03.0004
