The Charles Bur Harper Collection of 55 artifacts from the Philippines was given to the Spurlock Museum in September of 2004. This exciting new addition features a rice guardian figureine, betel chewing containers, a 99-inch long blow gun, head axes, shields, bows, arrows, swords, daggers, carved wood and coconut bowls, brass vessels, traditional clothing, and other daily life artifacts from various peoples of the philippines including the Aeta, Bontoc, kalinga, Ifugao, Bagobo, and Maranao.
Charles Bur Harper is a University of Illinois graduate who played on the basketball team in 1929 and 1930 and was captain in 1931. He is a retired Marketing Director for Unilever Corporation in the Philippines. These items were collected by Mr. Harper and his wife, Marion during the 34 years they lived in the Philippines.
